Second Body Montessori is a Montessori school located in Valencia, Spain, dedicated to providing children with hands-on and relevant learning experiences, guiding them towards their individual Cosmic Task and living with purpose.

The school serves lower elementary ages 6-9, upper elementary ages 9-12, and secondary education ages 12+.

Cosmic Education is an approach that allows children the opportunity to move towards their individual Cosmic Task, emphasizing hands-on and relevant learning experiences, appreciation of interconnectedness, applied and lifelong learning, and peace education.

The mission of Second Body Montessori includes three main goals:

  1. Cultivating a quality and relevant learning environment for children, teachers, and families, guided by the Montessori Method & Philosophy.
  2. Creating student-led enterprises to provide opportunities for children to become active participants in entrepreneurship projects and in their neighborhood.
  3. Expanding the school’s reach by engaging with the community and making Montessori visible.

Students engage in self-assessment, guided by teacher observations and feedback. This includes weekly student check-ins and recording work in student agendas to foster active participation in daily work and personal growth towards mastering life skills inspired by the Scouts philosophy.

The educational project at Second Body Montessori is a bilingual (Spanish/English) curriculum designed for children born in 2018 and older, emphasizing academic, social, and emotional growth. It incorporates mixed age groups and extends beyond the traditional work cycle to include art, music, bodywork, sports, activism, and various skills, fostering a comprehensive learning experience.

Peace education at Second Body Montessori prepares children for an uncertain future, integrating core skills through projects influenced by peace education, equality, tolerance, and changemaking initiatives. It aims to give children an understanding of social change and leadership based on peace.

The program is bilingual, biliterate, and bicultural, focusing on both English and Spanish. It provides overlapping instruction in all academic subjects by two Montessori-trained guides, one in Spanish and one in English.

The school offers supported experiences that ignite a child’s autonomy and agency, such as regular “going-outs” to museums, cultural institutions, supermarkets, historical areas, and neighborhood centers. These experiences are fundamental to satisfying the child’s curiosities outside the school building.

By focusing on its mission to cultivate a quality learning environment, create student-led enterprises, and expand its community reach, Second Body Montessori intends to make a significant impact on children, families, and educators in Valencia, Spain.

Second Body Montessori provides children with the opportunity to live in harmony with the world, live in community, and move towards their individual Cosmic Task, all through hands-on and relevant learning experiences.

The school seeks accreditation from Spain’s Ministry of Education, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), and the American Montessori Society to ensure alignment with values and pedagogy.

The school aims to lead with Montessori principles not only in the classroom but also in its approach with families, team members, and the broader Valencian community, emphasizing respect, peace, and authentic connections.

Graduates will qualify to continue in the Spanish school system or transfer to American or International schools. The school works closely with families to prepare children for education beyond their time at Second Body Montessori.

Second Body Montessori emphasizes the application of learning through relevant student-led projects. This includes community engagement/service learning, micro-business initiatives, “going-out” experiences, and the use of technology such as student podcasts, blogs, and Instagram.
